Chatham-Kent Fire, Unit 1-21 responding to a 2nd alarm fire at 162-164 Raleigh St. Thursday April 5, 2012. The Fire was contained quickly, and did not get into the attic of the balloon frame construction, multi-unit dwelling. Stations 1 and 2 were dispatched for a structure fire at 162 Raleigh St., with smoke, and no fire around 4pm on April 5, 2012. While en-rout, 1-11 received an update that there were flames visible. 1-11 arrived on scene an confirm there was a working fire. 1-11 stretched on the multi-unit house, with 1-14 pulling in around the corner. 2-11 arrived on scene, and crews conducted primary and secondary searches of the building, with negative results. Interior attack crews made entry; attacking the fire, and stopping it from spreading out of control. A 2nd alarm was called for man power, as the first in crews had pushed extremely hard to contain the fire, and conduct rapid searches. Units 1-21, and 2-14 responded to the scene for relief. The fire is being co! nsidered accidental, and is believed to have originated as an electrical issue in the basement. The fire appeared to have crept up the void in the inner, and outer walls to the second floor. A dog belonging to one of the families who reside in the building was rescued, and no other injuries were reported.
